If you haven't planted some ornamental grasses on your property (even in pots on the patio/deck), you are missing something grand. In August many ornamental grasses come alive with showy and feathery plumes and blooms in a variety of sizes and colors. The great news is that these plants are e-a-s-y to grow and maintain. In general, you can't fail with this in your garden or on your patio/deck.
You'll want to visit your favorite garden center to see the selection. Full sun and good drainage are necessary for optimum life.
Among the varieties you might like:
Hameln Fountain Grass (Pennisetum alopecuroides "Hameln")
Zebra Grass; "National Arboretum" Fountain Grass (Pennisetum alopecuroides "National Arboretum");
and Pampas Grass (Cortaderia selloana). Go for it!
