Northern Virginia Home Sales - Units Sold Increase in Latest Data

In information provided by MRIS (Metropolitan Regional Information Systems, Inc.), the number of residential housing units sold in Northern Virginia (Fairfax County, Fairfax City, Arlington County, Alexandria City, and Falls Church City) for the latest period of record, October 1, 2008 thru October 31, 2008 were up almost thirty per cent.  

Units Sold (10/1/2008- 10/31/2008): 1457;     for 2007:  Units Sold: 1123; 
% increase= 29.74%;
Median Price (Oct. 2008): $359,000;  Median Price (Oct. 2007): $435,000;
Days on the Market (October 2008): 94.

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) announced their most current data (averages for contract interest rates): 

30 Year Fixed Interest Rate =  5.99%
15 Year Fixed Interest Rate = 5.78%
1 Year Adjustable Rate Mortgage = 6.87%

Fannie Mae to Suspend Property Foreclosures Until January 9th, 2009
